In an online forum Dr. James Ehrlich accuses Dr. Mozaffarian of being "totally ignorant", publishing "nonsense" and doing "depressing work".

Who is Dr. Ehrlich? He makes his living doing the tests that Dr. Mozaffarian said "cannot be advocated." No wonder he was depressed!

EBCT

Electron Beam Computed Tomography

EBCT is the latest high tech, lucrative panaceia. It is flogged by various businesses who have invested millions in the hope that every baby boomer will get one. Unfortunately, to date, EBCT has neither prevented one heart attack nor saved one life.

When we know from intravascular ultrasound that at least 85% of American population over 55 years of age has advanced atherosclerotic plaque in their coronary arteries, what is the point of using a test that detects some of those plaques that have accumulated calcium? And, in and asymptomatic person, what do you do with them if you detect them anyway?

This recent in-depth analysis of EBCT from the Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian stated that EBCT "cannot be advocated until additional evidence demonstrates that benefits outweigh harms."

Naturally, the paper elicited outraged howls from the those who perform EBCT for their living, such as Dr. James Ehrlich.

A recent study showed how completely futile is doing EBCT and prescribing a statin in order to prevent the progression of plaque in the coronary arteries.
