Biosphere 2

This experiment was originally intended to demonstrate the possibility of creating a an air and water-tight enclosure containting replicas of the major terrestrial environments. The idea was to show that a colony, say on Mars, could be self-sustaining. While there were problems with the initial goal, the experiment was a success in demonstrating that when the average North American eats less calories in the form or a low-fat, low meat, high complex carbohydrate, high fruit and vegetable diet, his or her weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and blood cholesterol all decrease dramatically.

We thought so highly of this study, we wrote a description of it for the Globe and Mail published on March 8, 1993.
